So, Are You Done?

Done your CHRISTMAS shopping?

I found it crazy to see Christmas items out on store shelves last week, when it was still the month of September. Amazing. And no, I have NOT finished my shopping yet. Heck, I haven't even started any Christmas lists, never mind thought of gifts for friends and family. I still haven't gotten my kids' Halloween costumes bought yet!

I understand, to some degree, why the sellers have to put seasonal items out in advance. But by the time I'm ready to get last minute items for a holiday, and you KNOW I'm talking the day before, right? There is hardly anything left on the shelves! I need to find those candy corns and some light sticks for trick-or-treating, people! And do NOT tell me that I should "just do my shopping earlier."

Don't make me climb in this computer and smack that cute face of yours (and you are so lucky that you are cute!)!!

Sigh. I manage to find the right things. I wish I could start my Christmas shopping now (and I know a few people who have started, and 1 crazy woman who is DONE her shopping!), but my budget and my schedule, with 3 little kids, is just not allowing such a thing.

Ok, I'm done bitching.

I hope you are all set for trick-or-treating. I'm not. (At least I think I know what costumes the kids want to wear at this point in the month.) But if you do find some Easter baskets on sale soon, could you let me know? I'll be in aisle 3, drinking a gingerbread latte under the freeking CHRISTMAS TREE!

Every year I say I'm going to get an early jump on buying Christmas gifts, but I don't. I guess, for me, too much in-your-face seasonal hullabaloo doesn't work for my purchasing instinct. That being said, I love this holiday season, so I'm looking forward to putting my Christmas decorations up - in December.

My sis has a theory that the people who finish their shopping in August just buy a bunch of stuff and then figure out who to give it to afterward. I like this theory b/c it makes me, who waits until the last minute, feel like I'm late b/c I had to think up the 'perfect' gift for each person before I could shop.

I hate the buy early crap. Last year in January, I went looking for some snowpants as my kids outgrew theres from the beginning of the season. And they were all out. In January. Know what was in there place? Bathing Suits. I hate needed to by essentials like winter coats and stuff and hoping they fit all season. I hate keeping the old boots that fit now, only needing to try to find replacements 1/2 way through the season.

But yeah, we had Christmas decorations in some stores the beginning of September. It's sickening!

I saw that at Target a few days ago and I was a little taken back by it! I don't know why I was surprised. When my younger son outgrew his 9 month clothes in Feb., I couldn't find any 12 month winter clothes in the stores. Fortunately, I was able to borrow some from friends which was better anyway.

I was a bit disturbed to see Christmas items at Stop & Shop last night. Here I was looking for pumpkin pie ingredients... I had a kind of "bumped in the night" feeling to see all that green/red along with the black/orange.

I wrote to Stop & Shop about that. And Macy's. And anywhere else I see a freakin' Christmas tree before Halloween. They will only stop if they hear about it - and yeah, probably not then either.

My SIL pushes to be done in October to avoid holiday stress. So she stresses about being done in October. Yay her.

Is Christmas really such a big deal that people need months and months to prepare? Has everyone lost their f*ing minds?
