You know how when the middle of May rolls around you start seeing all these "Are you going to Blogher?" posts. And posts that tell you that you won't feel weird going even if you don't know anyone. Posts that talk about how much fun it was last year (and the year before) and how great the cocktail party is, and how everyone was kissing everyone else?
Every other blog you read has a button that says "I'm going to Blogher" or "I'm speaking at Blogher" and you kinda feel left out, right?
And you're sitting there reading this stuff and thinking "There is no freaking way I can afford to go to Blogher." Yeah, me too. None. Plane fare, conference tickets, hotel rooms, food.... it all ads up to a 3 day weekend that could cost $1500. Totally out of my price range.
So, because I'm a terrible person and a misanthrope, I made a button for the rest of us. The people that aren't going, can't afford to go, but still want to be noticed.
I already put it up on my blog. I'm not going to say anything. I'm just going to wait until someone notices. Because I'm bad like that!
If you want to borrow the button, go right ahead. I am going to make a second one that says "I"m not going to Blogher" later. If you want that one, let me know.
:-)
Very funny---I wonder what they'll say about it??? My button would have way too many words on it---something along the lines of "I'm going away for the weekend in June with my girlfriends to celebrate my 40th, so I don't feel right about also going away a month later, plus we're going to be on vacation, so that is why I won't be at". . . .
ReplyDeleteI could kiss you.
ReplyDeleteI thought naively that sure, I'd be able to swing a couple hundred for the trip to Chicago. I didn't even think the price of the convention itself would be more than plane fare!
I'm a terrible person too. Think I'll borrow your button.
Can you make one that says "I sold my spleen and cashed in my kid's college fund for Blogher"? Because that's what I did! I'm thinking about renting space on my forehead to advertisers.
ReplyDeleteLove it!
ReplyDeleteSend me and email and I'll send you the code!
ReplyDeleteOK, so I'm going to make one that says "Too busy for Blogher" and one that says "I'm not going to Blogher." Any other requests?
Oh, I so want one of those. I can't even afford a stick of gum, never mind blogher.
ReplyDeleteMy button should read: I can't afford BlogHer, but I'm going anyway.
ReplyDeleteI thought of another one last night.
ReplyDeleteI'm to shy to go to Blogher.
I'll make yours too, Ruth. It's good.
That's so funny! Can we get one that says I'm too much of a newbie to go to Blogher? JK!
ReplyDeleteBut of course. I gotta get on the computer for more than 15 minutes. Maybe I'll do them tonight.
ReplyDeleteLotta at Mom-o-Matic created a couple of hilarious ones as well.
ReplyDeleteToo Broke.
How about one for Going to the Police at Fenway instead of blogher?
ReplyDeleteBecause I am.
oooh, lucky you! That should be a good show.
